The Tunnels of Wallingford – 6:13
There have long been stories about hidden underground tunnels beneath the town of Wallingford in England. This video outlines the reasons why the book of the same title was written in order to preserve such stories and present to readers possibilities of where these tunnels might be. Nick spent his early years growing up in Wallingford, and in fact spent his first five years living with his family and grandparents in Flint House which is today the Wallingford museum. There are many sceptics about the existence of tunnels, but the authors cousins saw them with their own eyes. It is up to the reader to decide – is this fact or fiction?
How Accountants Lost Their Balance – 7:16
This is all about “where did my money go?” Financial accounting and reporting has not kept pace with a changing world and this is causing problems. Investors see their money being spent yet there is no reporting on where it went. The profession MUST find a way of dealing with intangibles. This video explains the thinking behind the challenge being faced.
Reflective Leaders and High Performance Organizations – 6:15
Nick shares an overview of the book he co-authored in 2012 with Dr. Peter Smyth. For over 30 years, Peter and Nick worked together with boards, CEO’s and executive teams to help them develop strategies and plans. While this included consulting advice on business strategy, it was also heavily biased towards the importance of effective leadership. At the time our work was considered “out there” and somewhat esoteric, but in the following years issues around organizational culture and employee engagement have brought these concepts into mainstream thinking. Culture starts and survives through effective leadership. From the board to front line supervision. Having “people skills” is no longer an option – it is an imperative to ensuring involvement and engagement. In making your people your competitive advantage.
Corporate Culture Combining Purpose and Values – 1:45
Nick provides a brief overview of the core content of his book “Corporate Culture: Combining Purpose and Values.” This book focuses attention on the need to address what the organization is trying to achieve – often called the mission, as well as how it plans to go about it. This aspect becomes more important as today’s businesses rely heavily on both internal and external relationships.
Nick On Responsible Business – 6:20
In 2022 Nick got together with Jim Bignal of Responsible Business 2030 in the UK to compare notes and ideas. Jim’s passion for changing corporate behaviour and Nick’s focus on corporate culture combined to result in this book. Within its’ pages Jim’s framework for building a responsible business is combined with Nicks’ ideas on culture.
Nicks Intro to the Culture Books – 4:36
This video provides a four minute overview of my books on culture. I talk about the first three non-fiction which are a business bias on what culture is, how much a poor culture costs and how to fix it. I also talk about the two fiction books that use story telling, to illustrate the challenges of real life understanding of culture from a CEO perspective.
Nick Talks About Combining Purpose And Values 2 – 4:10
Nick explains in more detail the importance of focusing on organizational and individual behaviour. Not just the theory but how this book explains how an effective implementation approach needs to be developed and supported.
Nick on ISO 30414 Metrics 2 – 13:31
This video is an extract from a 2 hour symposium given by the Human Capital Impact group, explaining ISO 30414 Guidelines for internal and external reporting of human capital.
